SEA2SKY

The 12th Annual SEA2SKY race offers a 10K Race/Walk and 5K Race.  The race boasts an awesome route starting on the promenade in Newcastle (5K starts in Donard Forest) and includes a mix of road and track before heading up through the foothills of the Mournes.

In the first half you will move off-road onto trails that climb gradually to the 5K mark where you will be rewarded by stunning views over Newcastle and beyond before descending to finish on Newcastle’s award-winning promenade. (Only 40 minutes drive from Newry). Please note 5K and 10K distances are approximate and may vary slightly due to off-road nature.

What are the start times for each race?
10K Walk:
 6.30 PM
5K Race: 7.30 PM – PLEASE ALLOW 15 MINUTES FROM REGISTRATION TO WALK TO THE 5K START LINE WHICH IS IN DONARD FOREST.
10K Race: 7.30 PM

Can I register for the event on the day?
NO. All registrations will be taken via online entry.  Registration will be open for race queries and to facilitate entry changes; ie transfer of entry to another runner or change of race distance. Merchandise will be available to purchase and pre- purchased merchandise can be collected at the Merchandise Desk.  Registration will be located at the Newcastle Leisure Centre, 10-14 Central Promenade, Newcastle BT33 0AA and will be clearly signposted on race day.

We will have Race Safety Instructions available in print at Registration for anyone that wishes to read them.  They will also be announced at the start line before the race commences.

 

Where is the Start / Finish area?
Both the 10K race and Walkers will start at the far end of the promenade opposite O’Hare’s Lounge and Bars. The 5K race starts in Donard Forest and the runners will be required to walk to the start line so should allow at least 15minutes from the Registration Marquee. There will be Marshals and signs to guide the way. This walk can be used as your warm up. There is a water station at the start of the 5K route should you require a drink before the race gets underway. The 5K and the 10K race will be started in conjunction at 7.30pm sharp so please do not be late.

What time is the event registration?
As all race packs will be posted prior to the event, runners do not need to visit Registration unless they have a query,  making a change to their race entry or collecting merchandise.  Registration will be open at the Newcastle Leisure Centre from 5pm – 7.00pm to facilitate this.

 

When will I receive my registration confirmation?  
Confirmation of your race entry will be sent to you automatically via email from Enthuse Events after your payment is made. All race packs will be posted out to participants before 11th July 2024. Any Merchandise ordered at time of entry will be available for collection on Race Day at the Merchandise Desk at Registration. A Final Race Day Information email will be sent to all registered participants on Wednesday 17th July 2024 please check your junk mail in case it lands there.

 

If I can’t run can I get a refund or defer my race entry? 
By entering the race you will be bound by the event disclaimer which you agreed to at time of registration.  Refund or transfer to another event is not available once entry has been completed. You are however permitted to transfer your entry to a family member/friend by emailing us at: info@born2runevents.com. Full Terms & Conditions are available to view at time of entry on the Enthuse Events Registration website.

 

What are the parking facitities at this event?
There is free parking in Donard Car Park (behind O’Hares Lounge Bars) which is closest to the Registration Marquee, at Causeway Road, car park beside Newcastle boating lake, and at Downs Road (Slieve Donard Hotel end of the promenade). We would encourage those taking part to car-share where possible.

 

What time is the prizegiving?
Prize giving will be at 9pm and prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd Male and Female Finishers in 5K and 10K.

 

What does my entry fee include?
• A Sea 2 Sky medal for all finishers
• Individual chip timing (10K & 5K race only)
• Race Number
• Complimentary post race BBQ

 

Are pets allowed?
Sorry, no pets allowed.

 

Will there be water stations?
There will be 1 water station at approximately 5K on the 10K race route. This water station is close to the start of the 5K race route.

 

Where are the toilets/shower facilities located?
Toilet facilities are available in Donard Car Park, the Newry, Mourne & Down District Council Pavillion behind the public toilets (changing and showers also available here), and Port-a-loos close to the Registration Marquee.  Please do not use toilets in O’Hare’s Lounge Bars before the race only after the race at the Post Race Refreshments.

 

Are there any Post Race Refreshments?
Hydration station at finish line. Complimentary Post Race Refreshments BBQ style will be served in O’Hares Lounge Bars (opposite Finish Line) from approximately 8.15pm and O’Hares Lounge Bars have entertainment on a Friday in the Summer Season for anyone who wishes to make a night of it.

 

What footwear should I bring?
Running shoes are suitable for all the terrain of the 10K race including the forest paths however some may prefer trail shoes as the field section is quite muddy.

 

Can I run with a buggie?
Due to the nature of this course, for health and safety purposes, it is not suitable for buggies.
